On 7 Dec 2012, the Chair of Journalism of the University of Tartu held a conference on media policy, focusing on the quality of news journalism, as well as on media literacy issues. The conference was held under the MEDIADEM project of the EU Seventh Framework Programme.

The conference discussed how to maintain professional journalism under the crisis of newsmedia’s business model, on the occasion of overabundance of information and marketing communication. Regarding this, what could be the state’s approach towards media policy? The central question of the conference was: what kind of journalism does the public need? Three panels addressed these questions from the aspects of the media, the state/public and media education.
This video appears as a newsreel reflecting the perception towards the conference by the second year students of journalism and communication at the University of Tartu.
