From 9-10 December 2011 the CEURUS research cluster "History & Memory" will organize an international workshop on the competing securitisation of the communist legacy in Eastern Europe at the University of Tartu. The aim of the workshop is to discuss salient issues of public remembrance, "memory wars" and onthological security in the post-communist space. Thematic panels will look at law as a mnemonic technology, monumental politics, and other ways of securitising and institutionalising memory in Eastern Europe. For two days, scholars from Russia, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania and Estonia will come together to exchange and discuss current research in the field.
