Esko Ukkonen, professor of Computer Science at University of Helsinki and foreign member of Estonian Academy of Sciences will give a guest lecture as part of the Granö* lecture series on April 24 at 16.15. The lecture is titled “The Era of Algorithms”. Absract: Algorithm is a word that nowadays frequently occurs in public media. Indeed, algorithms and programming are everywhere, they are already included in elementary school education, and computing has become a public utility. But what is an algorithm? What can algorithms achieve and what are their limitations? - The talk will survey past developments on algorithms and algorithmic thinking as well as discuss their future potential.
